Alleged disloyalty: Halt Alasoadura’s confirmation as minister, APC group tells Buhari, Senate
By Idowu Isamotu, Abuja
Despite ongoing screening of ministerial nominees by the Senate, reactions trailing release of the list continued on Wednesday, as a group of All Progressives Congress in Ondo State called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Senate President to, as a matter of urgency stop the confirmation of the nominee from Ondo State, Senator Olutayo Alasoadura.
The ruling party group, under the aegis of Ondo APC Solidarity group in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, which was jointly signed its National coordinator and National Secretary, Gbenga Bojuwomi and Alh. Ibrahim Sikiru respectively, premised their call upon what they described as disloyalty to the present administration and party by the former lawmaker.
The group alleged that the nominee, when he was in the 8th Senate connived with the then President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki to pervert the policies of present government, adding that he also worked closely with Governor Akeredolu to foist Action Alliance (AA) in Ondo State that eventually samasulted the victory of Mr. President himself.
“As Nigeria, most especially people of Ondo State look forward to the ministerial nominee who can turn things around in the country and Ondo State, it is extremely sad that the fulfillment of our expectations is abolished by nominating Senator Tayo Alasoadura as a nominee from Ondo State.
“It is quite clear that President Buhari who is supposed to be our role model as youth does not follow his words to the logical end. Mr. President had few days again categorically issued a statement that he would only use those whom he knows and that are loyal party members this time around as ministers,” the statement read.
He argued that the opportunity as minister, if given, there is no doubt the nominee in connivance with Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi whose 2023 Presidential ambition is not hidden will flourish the opposition party they supported last election, Action Alliance (AA).
He said, “Is it not evidently clear now that the choice of Alasoadura, someone who connived with Saraki in the 8th Senate to pervert the policies of this Government, and also who worked closely with Governor Akeredolu to foist Action Alliance (AA) in Ondo State that eventually samasulted the victory of Mr. President himself, will endanger the party and constitute continuous misdirection in Nigeria at large.”
Bojuwomi, who further echoed their displeasure said the action of President Buhari to nominate Senator Alasoadura from Ondo State is capable of weakening the party in the State and make it redundant.
According to him, “The action of President Buhari to nominate Senator Alasoadura from Ondo State is a deliberate attempt to flourish their new party AA and also to make our party APC redundant in the State with the connivance of Governor Kayode Fayemi whose 2023 Presidential ambition is not hidden..
“However, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State is warned not to interfare with Ondo politics henceforth. Infact anytime he is cited with Akeredolu in Ondo State, we shall give him the treatment he deserves.
“Governor Fayemi is the architect of the problem we are facing now in Ondo State. He gave advise to Governor Akeredolu to form AA, so that if President Buhari loses they can all fall back to that, simply because of his Ill-fated 2023 Presidential ambition, he was actively involved in confusing Mr. President for the choice of Senator Alasoadura, their plan is to build the new party AA, before 2023.”
