Continue searching for oil in Lake Chad Basin, Northeast group tells NNPC

The Borno State Chapter of North East Development Association (NEDA) on Monday called on the newly appointed Group Managing Director of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Kyari Kolo Mele to expedite oil explorations in Lake Chad Basin, saying the security situation has improved.
The Chairman of the Coalition, Abbas Gambo, who made this call in Maiduguri at a news conference noted that their call was based on an informed idea of how rich the Lake Chad basin is.
Gambo described Mele as a man known for integrity, accountability and transparency in governance, oil and gas sectors of the economy.
He said Mele’s appointment was received with cheers by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the Nigeria Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (NEITI), as well as reputable agencies and players in oil and gas industries.
He, therefore, urged the new GMD to rededicate for continuous service to
“Mele should come up with unique, effective and efficient initiatives and ideas that could ensure increased energy sufficiency in the country.
“We also urge him to do all that is professionally possible and intensify the search for and exploration of crude oil in Chad and Bida Basins, Benue trough and other areas that had not been explored.”
