JUST IN: Buhari signs 2019 N8.9trn budget

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, signed the 2019 Appropriation Bill.
The bill was signed at about 11:10am in his office in Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The President’s assent officially makes the bill become law and signals the commencement of the 2019 fiscal budget.
It would be recalled that the two chambers of the National Assembly last month passed the budget at N8.916 trillion, up from N8.826 trillion submitted by Mr Buhari in December last year.
The National Assembly added N90 billion.
During the signing it, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Danjuma Goje were present.
Others in attendance included: the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo-Udoma and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Ita Enang.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, arrived at the end of the signing ceremony.
Meanwhile, Udo Udoma had explained that details of the signed budget would be made available during a public presentation on Tuesday. Invitations had been sent out for the event.
The invitation partly read, “Dear Sir/Ma, On behalf of the Honourable Minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Udoma Udo Udoma, CON, the Director General, Budget Office of the Federation hereby invites you to a public presentation of the approved FGN 2019 Budget scheduled as follows: Date: Tuesday, 28th May 2019; Time: 10:30 am; Venue: Main Auditorium, Federal Ministry of Finance, CBD Abuja.”
