Minister in Nigerian attire draws ire of South Africans
For dressing in Nigerian attire, a South African Minister is a subject of jibe and jokes by his countrymen on social media.
Mbalula Fikile, South African minister of Transport had posted his picture below on his twitter handle, drawing harsh and mild jokes from his countrymen.
Fikile who had strong passion for Nigerian fashion and style had in the past dressed up in traditional Igbo attire. This was at a time the South african team was playing host to Nigerian soccer team.
That was before the xenophobic attacks.
Reports said the minister greatly admires former Nigerian president ,Olusegun Obasanjo.
Others said the minister risks being beaten up if mistaken for a Nigerian by South African taxi drivers.
Others question the nationality of the minister, querying why he is not proud of his South African culture as a public officer.
Many others think the minister is too playful, especially at a time the South African transport system is considered to be in serious mess.
Mr Fikile is however rated as a true African who uses his occassional dressing style to send a message of pan African unity.
On another note, it is not clear though if the minister is a dual citizen of Nigeria and South Africa.
