NNPC tackles Nigerian Students for decrying recruitment criteria
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has urged the National Association of Nigerian Students to face their studies and pass their examinations before seeking employment with the Corporation.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Monday, the NNPC Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, was reacting to the 72-hour ultimatum issued by NANS, which accused the Corporation of discrimination in its recruitment process.
The NANS had, in a statement on Sunday, rejected the requirements for recruitment by the NNPC, alleging they were “anti-poor and anti-masses.”
The association further gave the Corporation a 72-hour ultimatum to withdraw all alleged anti-poor and anti-masses conditions in the employment criteria or it would embark on a protest.
Ughamadu said that NANS should focus on their studies in order to graduate with good results.
“NANS should pass their examination first and graduate, after which they will be qualified for employment.
“What NANS should face now is to study very hard and graduate and make a reasonable degree. They have not graduated yet and they are looking for employment,” Ughamadu said.
The Corporation had opened a recruitment portal from March 13 to March 26 and has started short-listing qualified candidates.
