Boko Haram: UN Supports Anti-Terror Coalition

The UN special representative of Secretary General for West Africa and Sahel, Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas; has said the international community and other partners are to support Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) fight terrorism.

According to him, the fight is being carried out by troops of Chad Basin countries of Nigeria, Chad, Niger and Cameroon.


Chambas spoke Thursday, when the UN and EU delegation visited Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.


“It is in this context, we have the supportive efforts of Chad Basin countries,” he said, stating that the fight was to combat, defeat and eliminate terrorism.


He said the defeat could be in whatever form it manifested itself in the insurgency affected countries.


He said the Nigerian Armed Forces, is putting in efforts to totally eradicate Boko Haram and other terrorists groups


According to him, the terrorists may be operating in Borno or any other state in Northeast.


He lamented that it is criminal for Boko Haram to destroy people’s lives and property. International terrorism network, according the envoy, has been globally and universally condemned.


His words: “It is the time that requires total support of the entire international community, because terrorism is the manifestation of international terrorism; where resources must be pooled to fight it.


While briefing the delegation on counter-insurgency operations,Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi said: “The only thing Boko Haram could do is that; it will crumble.


“We’re in love to resolve, until Federal Government and the international community does everything within our power to this insurgency to a quick end.”


He pledged to the UN and EU delegation that the Armed Forces will not fail.
