Market Situation: OPEC Chief Briefs African Leaders
The Secretary General of OPEC,Mohammad Barkindo on Friday met with Nigeria’s President,Muhammadu Buhari and Equatorial Guinea’s President, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo on the sidelines of the 5th GECF summit in Malabo over state of oil market.
According to OPEC,Barkindo briefed the African leaders on current oil and gas market conditions and their role as sustainable sources of energy in the energy transition.
Both Presidents were reported to have reiterated the urgent need to address the energy poverty in developing countries.
The leaders however emphasised protection of the environment as the sustainable pathway forward.
About 600 million people in Africa have no access to modern forms of energy.
