Aisha Buhari versus Garba Shehu: Nigerians Rate First Lady with ex-First Ladies

Nigerians on social media have been reviewing and rating Nigeria’s serving and former First Ladies in term of their influence on their husbands and governmental processes.

The review which has now seeing Patience Jonathan trending followed a press statement by the First Lady in which she attacked both Alhaji Mamman Daura and the President’s spokesman,SSA Garba Shehu. The First Lady had accused Mallam Garba of actions and conduct which undermined her office.

In the ongoing review, many social media users pointed to the powerlessness of the First Lady especially her frequent media foray which they see as undermining the President more than achieving any major goal.

Many social media users posted that Mrs Buhari has provided ammunition for enemies of her husband to affirm that the President is not in control of his government.

“Every other month Aisha Buhari makes it clear that General Buhari is not in charge or there is a cabal controlling him. But the rest of us should not say anything or criticise his failings, because if we do, WhatsApp -controlled clowns will camp in your mention the whole day.

“Can’t think of anyone that has undermined General Buhari more than Aisha Buhari in the last 12 months. Every time she speaks her truth, it just goes on to show that the man is not in charge”,Dr Dipi Awojide has posted on Twitter.

While some social media influencers practically mocked the first lady for only lamenting without any power, they referred to former First Lady Mrs Jonathan whom they said wielded real power in the governmental process.

They cited several examples of critical decisions influenced by Mrs Jonathan with many jokingly affirming that the First Lady only rushes to the media as a sign of powerlessness.

Others also rated former First Lady Turai Yar’Adua above the incumbent First Lady ,noting.that under Yar’Adua presidency ,Turai was even at a point the head of a cabal in the Presidency.

A major development however was that most social media users denied Mrs Buhari of any sympathy on the renewed feud within the State House, citing her comments on social media bill and her support for Governor Yahaya Bello.

A social media user actually jokingly described the First Lady’s letter on Mamman Daura and Garba Shehu as hate speech.
