Shake up in Military:Gen Modi now Chief of Staff
Following fresh killing of 89 soldiers,President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger republic today sacked top military chiefs and appointed immediate replacement.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Council of Ministers held under the chairmanship of the president.
The communique issued after the meeting reads as follows :
“After examining the single item on its agenda, the Council took the following decisions:
• Brigadier General Didilli Amadou, is appointed secretary general of the Ministry of National Defense.
• The General of Division, Salifou Modi, is appointed chief of staff of the armies, at the Ministry of National Defense.
• Brigadier General Seidou Bagué is appointed Chief of the Land Staff at the Ministry of National Defense.
• Brigadier General Sidikou Issa, is appointed Inspector General of the Armed Forces, at the Ministry of National Defense”.
The appointment took immediate effect.
