Troops Decimate Terrorists in Sambisa

Troops of 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation Lafiya Dole, have killed
several terrorists in the Mainok/Jakana axis and Lambawa Forest of
Sambisa in Borno state.

The neutralization of insurgents on Sunday; occurred when troops
encountered an ambush during operations in axis along
Maiduguri-Damaturu road.

An anonymous military officer attached to the Battalion; disclosed
Monday in Maiduguri that some terrorists escaped with various gunshot
wounds into the forest.

He said Jakana and Mainok; had been severally attacked, until troops
encountered an ambush in the axis south of Sambisa Forest.

“There were increased recent terrorists activities, which prompted our
troops’ resilience and combat to chase them out of Mainok, Jakana and
forest effectively,” he said.

According to him, the encounter with insurgents came shortly after the
Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, arrived 29 Task Force
Brigade camp, on an operational visit.

He said the insurgents had planned attacks on soft targets and an
ambush around Mainok and Jakana general areas.

“Our troops went after them at about 6:00 pm Sunday and encountered
them which resulted in heavy gun battle leading to the killing of a
number of terrorists,” he said.

He said due to superior fire power of troops, the terrorists were
forced to retreat in disarray causing many of them to easily be
eliminated in the process.
He said a terrorist was captured alive with the recovery of four gun
trucks, a BMG, a GPMG, nine AK-47 rifles and some DSHK guns.

He said the insurgents disguised in military-like gun trucks or police
patrol vehicles to attack and kidnap people along Maiduguri-Damaturu

“We’re ready for the criminals any day, any time and we will go after
them, wherever we find the terrorists in communities or forests,” he

He added that; unfortunately, a soldier paid the supreme price; while
two others were wounded and evacuated to 7 Division medical facilities
for treatment.
