Yobe APC Rejects Waziri Bulama as National Secretary
The Yobe State chapter of All Progressive Congress (APC); has kicked
against foisting Arch. Bulama Waziri as the national secretary of
The foisting, according to APC’s State Secretary, Abubakar Bakabe, was
an alleged gross “abuses and contravention” of the norms, procedures
and established processes of the ruling party.
Bakabe raised the alarm in a statement released on Monday; to
journalist in Damaturu, the state capital.
He said APC has allegedly disrespected due process, which had been a
country’s role model of due processes in party politics.
His words: “The APC had in last years been noted for its respect for
rules and procedures. This made our great party different from others
and became a role model of due process in party politics in Nigeria.
“In its wisdom, APC deliberately adopted a zoning policy to
accommodate and give every part of country a sense of belonging and
participation,” saying that the party zoned its national offices to
six geopolitical zones.
He said that the office of National Secretary; was zoned to the North
East and Hon. Mai Mala Buni was subsequently elected as the pioneer
substantive secretary of APC.
He explained that at the expiration of their first tenure, Buni was
re-elected for a second term of office in 2018 until his resignation
when he was elected Governor of Yobe state in April, 2019.
He declared that following established precedence and norms of the
party, it is only right for Yobe state to produce an acting APC
National Secretary before the next national convention.
Citing Kwara state, Bakabe said: “In the case of Kwara state, Lai
Mohammed was appointed Minister for Information, after being replaced
by Alhaji Bolaji Abdullahi as the party’s National Publicity
Similarly, when Bolaji Abdullahi defected to the People’s Democratic
Party (PDP), he was also replaced by yet another Kwaran, Lawal Issa
for the same office.
“This has remained the norm and procedures for the ruling party,” he said.
The purported reports suggesting Waziri as a replacement to Governor
Mai Mala Buni for the office of the National Secretary, gives us a
great concern as to why some people suddenly want to change the laid
down procedures of party.
He said that this is to short change Yobe state in the national
political equation of APC.
It is equally disheartening that, as a major stakeholder of the party
and one of the leading states that had consistently produced mass
votes to the party.
He said Yobe had been treated with such “wanton recklessness and in
flagrant abuse” to the existing procedures and practices.
He therefore, drew the attention of party not allow some forces filled
with personal and selfish agenda to draw APC to path of
“We demand that; what is due to the state should be given to it in the
interest of peace and unity of our great party,” he warned.
He noted that the APC leadership at national level; will not allow
such brazen act of injustice to prevail in setting a dangerous
precedence in running the affairs of party.
