Oil : #NNPC to explore #Bida-#Sokoto Basin
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC will acquire six hundred kilometers of two-dimensional data to evaluate the potentials of Bida and Sokoto basins.
The Group General Manager, Frontier Exploration Services, Malam Abdullahi Bomai made this known while unveiling the plan at the Government House, Minna Niger State.
Mallam Kyari said an in-depth geological and geochemical studies have indicated strong hydrocarbon-bearing in the basin, which needed more exploration.
He said exploration covers 8 local government areas in the state, as well as two in Kwara and one in Kogi states.
The GMD announced that adequate compensation would be given to the host communities while promising to engage both local workers.
Governor Abubakar Sani Bello said the government has made available all machinery in the sector to ensure that the exploration of the Bida Basin can make the state an oil-producing one.
The Director of Centre of Applied Sciences and Technology Research (CASTER) of Ibrahim Badamasi University (IBBU) Lapai, Prof Nuhu Obaje had insisted that there was crude potential in the Bida Basin contrary to media reports dismissing the research efforts in the area.
