ACCI Seeks more Collaboration, as SMEDAN presents N500,000 Business Support Grant To Its Member
The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) on Friday sought more support and collaboration from the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN) .
Director-General of the Chamber, Victoria Akai stated this when the Agency presented N500,000 Business Support Grant to one of its members in Abuja at the Chambers Conference Hall.
The DG who noted that ACCI is aimed at protecting the interest of the business community within Abuja and Nigeria as a whole, said she looks forward to more collaboration with SMEDAN in the coming months.
“You have listed out alot of benefits that can come to our members and the collaboration between ACCI and SMEDAN is very important because we are 100 percent an SME association” she said.
“We have over 2500 members and I can tell you that over 2000 are SMEs, so we need to strengthen our relationship with you” she added.
The DG also said that “We particularly look forward to talent hunt program that SMEDAN has and we would like to work on this through the BEST Center. We should look at better ways of collaborating, I know that you are reaching out to a lot of people, we want you to also reach out to us in that aspect”.
She requested that the SMEDAN encourage SMEs to use the chambers robust services in forging their businesses ahead, informing the gathering that ACCI operates through four centers.
She said while the Dispute Resolution Center (DRC) helps resolves disputed in a more affordable way, the Policy Advocacy Center drives policies that are hepful to businesses particularly in Abuja, and across the country.
The DG also said that the Abuja Trade Center organizes Trade Fairs and Expos and the Business Entrepreneurship Skills and Technology Center helps promote skills acquisition among youths.
She informed the gathering that this year’s Abuja International Trade Fair will be holding between the 22nd October and 2nd November, inviting the general public to participate.
She also said that to align with current realities of COVID-19, the Chamber has developed digital platform for E-commerce, “so we are hosting the Trade Fair online and scantily offline. We also have e-learning platforms for SMEs and young people, if you go to our website Accinigeria.com you will be able to access these services”.
“We also started the electronic dispute resolution. These are all the services we have and we are looking forward to synchronize our activities and provide more benefits to businesses to Abuja and in Nigeria.
The DG appreciated SMEDAN for the supports it had in the past provided for the Chamber stating that the presentation of the cheque to one of the its members, Kamilla Farms is a big feat to be celebrated.
“We are not taking the events for granted as it is the very purpose for which ACCI is established” she said.
The DG noted that the Chamber has been working with SMEDAN for years which led to the signing of an MOU in 2019.
“The collaboration has been amazing, SmEDAN has been very supportive, they have been training our people to be able to access loans and grants like this and this is an evidence that our partnership is working.
Speaking earlier, the Director of Partnership and Coordination, Mallam Idris GAMBO who represented the DG of SMEDAN Dikko Umar Rada said the Kamilah Farms produces products that is worthy of encouragement.
He said Kamilah Ahmed, the 14-year old Founder, Initiator of Kamilah Farms, who is also a mentee of ACCI BEST Centre was invited to SMEDAN to make a presentation about her products, and when she did she impressed everyone with her presentation.
“I remember she wrote to the agency, and when my DG saw the background and her presentation, he was impressed that he had to invite her, and almost everybody was moved and carried along with her presentation” he said.
“Ordinarily the time she came we had other programs at hand, but we has to create a space for her to participate in, and she truly deserved it” he said.
He said the agency has many programs of support for SMEs including talent hunt, school enrerpreship programs, conditional grant scheme and national business skills development initiative amongst others all geared towards supporting SMEs grow and expand their businesses.
