Insurgency: Borno Lawmakers Honour Ex-SARS Chief

The Borno State House of Assembly, has honoured CSP Ibrahim Mohammedfor fighting insurgency, kidnapping and armed banditry that claimed many lives and property.

The over a decade long Boko Haram terrorism, has also claimed 36,000lives with property worth about N3.42 trillion in Borno, Adamawa andYobe states.

Presenting the award at plenary session Thursday in Maiduguri, the Deputy Speaker, Abdullahi Askira disclosed that Mohammed has displayed gallantries in fighting insurgency and other criminal activities inBorno.

“Today’s award, is in Assembly’s recognition of CSP Mohammed effortsand gallantry in front lines of Boko Haram terrorism and rescue ofcaptives and abductees,” he said.

The award, is barely 48 hours, after Borno’s Network of Civil SocietyOrganisation (NCSO) staged a peaceful protests in support of defunctSpecial Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) to Government House, Maiduguri.

Most of the protesters across the country, are also against the defunct security outfit for alleged brutality, intimidation and. harassment of innocent citizens.

But, according to Askira, Mohammed and his team displayed their gallantries in fighting insurgency, kidnappings and other crimes inthe state.

“It has never been done; in history of this Assembly to present anaward to any security personnel,” he noted, adding that; but the showof bravery and selfless service by awardee warrants his invitation tothe Chamber to present him the award before legislators, friends andassociates.

While presenting brief citation by Majority Leader, Dige Mohammed, hesaid that Mohammed was born on July 7, 1969 at Kotonkarfe council ofKogi state.

He obtained his degree in Education at the University of Maiduguri(UNIMAID), and enlisted into the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kanostate, before rising to rank of CSP.

He said that Mohammed served as an officer in various states includingAbuja before he was deployed to Borno to head SARS as Commander.

“While serving SARS as Commander, CSP Mohammed performedwonderfully well which led to the dislodgement of unspecified numberof Boko Haram terrorists with seizure of arms and ammunitions.

“He rescued many Boko Haram and kidnappers captives in various partsof the state.

”In his brief response, Mohammed dedicated the award to God Almighty,security agencies including members of the Civilian JTF, his familyand the people of the state for their support and cooperation to achieve such feet.

Despite disbandment of SARS, he still remains a police officer; who always strive to offer his constitutional responsibility in the fight
