FG Hands Over Feed Mill To Ondo State Government
The Federal Government has handed over Feed Mill machines and feed block mould to Ondo state government.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), Dr, AbdulKadir Mu’Azu at the handling over ceremony, said it was part of federal government’s interventions to cushion the effect of high food prices and to ensure regular supply of animal feeds.
The Permanent Secretary who was represented by the state Co-ordinator of FMARD, Mr Anthony Otuonye said the programme is intended to develop a sustainable agriculture in the livestock industry which will open up opportunities for healthy living and wealth creation through improvement in animal feed quality at reasonable price.
The Permanent Secretary who handed over the mill on behalf of the Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Muhammad Sabo Nanono, observed that the initiative will help towards reducing poverty, create wealth and generate employment.
The feed mill, he stressed, is strategically sited at Idanre for utilization of cocoa pod to replace maize in animal feed formulation.
The Southwest Regional Director of FMARD, Mr Marcus Ogunbiyi in his message, said the machines were sited in Idanre because it is the largest cocoa producer.
Ogunbiyi urged the state and benefiting community to ensure security for its use and operation.
While appreciating the Animal Husbandry Services Department of the Federal Ministry for its gestures for the establishment of the feed mill, he disclosed that the project was located at Idanre by the Assistant Director and Head of Division of the Animal Feed and Feed Security of the Federal Department of Animal Husbandry Services, Mr Franklin Olonimoyo who is a native of the community.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Agriculture, Alhaji Kunle Sanni, represented by the State Director of Livestock, Mr Ayodele Obademi appreciated FMARD for what he described as a favour done to Ondo state people.
He said it will assist in the production of feed mill to bring down the price of feed and avoid unnecessary wastage of cocoa pods.
The Owa of Idanre kingdom, Oba Dr. Fredrick Aroloye, represented by his Personal Secretary and Media Officer, Mr Ganiyu Agbelusi described the gesture as a manifestation of the zeal for the establishment as he urged the community to take advantage of the mill.
The Monarch, disclosed that the local government area has over 400 communities appealing that more of such mill be established at the various communities for better service delivery.
The Chairman of Idanre Local government, Mr Kayode Aroloye represented by Ige Akinnaso said the local government will grant soft loans to assist farmers in accessing the animal feed machines for effective utilization.
The Community Woman leader, Mrs, Roseline Sanni appreciated the Federal government for the development, but appealed that efforts be made to establish more to meet the demands of other communities within the local government areas.
