How Army Killed 20 Terrorists, Destroys Four Gun Trucks In Borno

Troops of 28 Task Force Brigade, Sector 1 Operation Lafiya Dole; have neutralized 20 Boko Haram terrorists, while repelling Saturday attacks on Askira community in Borno.

According to Army, the insurgents burst from south flank of the Sambisa Forests by 7pm in 15 gun trucks along Mbalala/Askira road.

Spokesman of Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Ado Isa, Sunday in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital disclosed that; “the terrorists surrounded Askira town to launch simultaneous multiple attacks from different directions.

“The gallant troops at the town’s strategic military post, responded and engaged the criminals with fire power,” adding that the terrorists suffered huge losses in both men and fighting equipment .

He said that during their two-hour repulsion of insurgents, four gun trucks were captured by the troops.

According to him, besides the capture of equipment, about a dozen gun trucks were also destroyed by Air Task Force fighter jet, while the terrorists were fleeing.

On casualties of multiple attacks, he said: “Scores of the terrorists were killed and over 20 of them were dead, as bodies were counted Sunday morning.

“Additionally, three each of motorcycles and Anti-Aircraft Guns and two PKT machine guns were recovered.”

He added that 10 AK-47 rifles and 13 Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) Bombs; as well as cache of ammunition and other weapons were captured from terrorists.

He however noted that a soldier paid the supreme sacrifice with two others wounded in the repulsion of terrorists on community.

While commending the soldiers, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai urged them to continue to sustain the aggressive fight to rid remnants of terrorists from the Northeast.

He described the terrorists as; “criminals, rapists and marauders,” that should be dealt with decisively to end the war for peace.
