2023: APC in Search of a Unity Candidate

By Surukusku Dalori, Abuja

Amidst deepening division within the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) , a close circle of close loyalists of President Muhammadu Buhari is in search of a unity candidate acceptable to all geo-political zones of Nigeria.

Impeccable top flight sources revealed that these young entrenched inner core backers and field workers of the President are worried by present bickering and infighting over presidential succession that is threatening the post-Buhari survival of the party and his supposed legacies.

Sahel Standard gathered that the apparent irreconcilable factionalisation within the party alongside presidential camps is creating anxiety and political premonition which the President’s caucus has decided to squarely addressed.

As at the time of filing this report, the party is deeply split into three groups with each camp backing and sponsoring one presidential aspirant or the other. The development is reported to have prompted ongoing push for the President to take a stand early enough to put early end to the gradual disintegration of the party.

While it is not clear if it is the remnants of the famed cabal that is behind the presidential search, it was reliably gathered that the search team has worked out criteria for selection and recommendation of a suitably qualified successor.

” I can tell you the search is on for a successor. The reason is the threat the present scenario posed to the remaining years of the President in office and his post-office years. With the current trend within the party, APC may be gasping for life by late 2022. We are also worried the opposition is already preparing and capitalising on the disarray within the party.

” The situation poses serious threat to the collective survival of all of us. The opposition is scheming but we are daily getting bitterly apart. Our convention is almost a matter of life and death ‘, a top APC chieftain from North West confided in Sahel Standard.
