#France Backs #Chadian new Military Council
France has learned with emotion of the death of the President of the Republic of Chad, Idriss Déby Itno, announced on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. It presents to the family of President Déby Itno and to the entire Chadian people its saddened condolences. Chad is losing a great soldier and a President who has worked tirelessly for the security of the country and the stability of the region for three decades. France loses a courageous friend.
France stands alongside the Chadian people in this ordeal. It expresses its firm attachment to the stability and territorial integrity of Chad.
It takes note of the announcement by the Chadian authorities of the establishment of a transitional military council, a body responsible for leading a political transition of limited duration. It stresses the importance of the transition taking place under peaceful conditions, in a spirit of dialogue with all political and civil society actors, and allowing a rapid return to inclusive governance based on civil institutions
