Abidjan Archbishop Calls for Release of Soro Supporters

The metropolitan archbishop of Abidjan, Cardinal Jean-Pierre Kutwa has on Monday evening asked Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara to pardon the supporters of Guillaume Soro, the former President of the Ivorian National Assembly, imprisoned last week for allegedly disturbing public order.


“The peace we seek is also the path to reconciliation in fraternal communion. In the name of this reconciliation, I humbly ask you, Mr. President of the Republic, you who hold the power of presidential pardon, to agree to free all those who have been arrested following the latest events in our country. country, ”pleaded Cardinal Kutwa in a homily during a mass at Saint Paul’s Cathedral in Abidjan on the occasion of the 53rd World Day of Peace.

This Mass for Peace recorded the presence of Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara and his wife, the Vice-President and his wife, the Prime Minister and several members of the government.

“I dream of a moment when all our great leaders will be able to sit around the same table to listen to each other in order to work so that the search for cohesion, unity and peace presides over all their words and political actions ”, wished the religious dignitary inviting all to work for a“ peaceful electoral environment ”in 2020.
