Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal has moved closer to securing the presidential ticket of the PDP as he has been appointed as the new chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum.
The former house speaker is widely seen as a top contender for the 2023 ticket amidst wanning support for Atiku Abubakar candidacy.It was learnt that Tambuwal has the full backing of the Sultanate council and many powerful forces who think the presidency should return to the Sokoto axis.
Tambuwal also has strong national network as a former Speaker of the House of Reoresentatives whose colleagues across the 36 states reportedly form a strong backbone for presidential election.
He was appointed for the position during the party’s 88th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata plaza, Abuja.
Tambuwal by the appointment will replace the outgoing governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson as the PDP Governors’ Forum chairman.
Dickson’s tenure will elapse by February 3, 2020.
His replacement with Tambuwal was contained in a statement issued by Mohammad Bello, special adviser to the Sokoto governor.
According to Bello, the choice of Tambuwal was unanimously accepted by all the governors in attendance at the NEC meeting.
