Doctor Musa Yahaya, based overseas, has said that if the Italian suspected to have come to Nigeria with corona virus had spent 2 days with others in the country ,the disease might have already spread.
Speaking in an interview monitored on Friday, Dr.Yahaya explained that it was frightening that corona virus could easily spread when an infected person mingled with others from 2 to 25 days.
“This Italian must have contracted the disease from his interactions with others in his country before coming to Nigeria. Now that he is in Nigeria, government should redouble efforts to curb its spread in the country,” he said.
In a related development, Dr.Nasiru Sani Gwarzo of Centre for Disease Control, in a BBC Hausa interview monitored by journalists in Kaduna on Friday,advised Nigerians to improve on their hygiene as means of avoiding the virus.
“In history, this is the fist time the world is witnessing this disease. The disease has all the symptoms of flu, but in a very severe manner.”
“It leads to fever and could cause death….. but like one in a hundred,” he said.
According to him, since a vaccine to cure the pandemic was yet to be found,and it is also very contagious ,good personal hygiene was important to avoid contracting the disease.
” Please whoever is suffering from flu,cold,should avoid mingling with people. Please stay at home. If there are others in the house, please isolate,” he pleaded.
“Avoid handshakes especially with returnees.Inculcate the habit of washing your hands, use sanitizers,” he said.
He warned that whoever enjoys shaking hands and touching things anyhow, such person may rub his palm on the facial region,nose and mouth ,thereby contracting the dreaded disease.
Doctor Gwarzo said that whenever a carrier of corona virus sneezed and used hand to wipe phlegm from the nose,the disease could easily be contracted by those close by and be spread in hours
