Reports Certain APC Governors Back Obaseki

There are growing reports that the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki still enjoys active support of some APC Governors despite his defection to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

Checks by Sahel Standard indicated that not less than five APC governors still offer active logistic and political support to the Edo governor as a continuation of the battle for supremacy within the ruling party.

It was learnt that those still backing Obaseki reasoned that a win for Ize Iyamu will amount to a victory for the Oshiomole camp in the battle for supremacy within APC.

A party source noted that “the internecine war within the APC has crossed party lines as a faction is not prepared to allow Oshiomole to laugh last on the power struggle.

“A win for Obaseki to the said faction is a defeat for Oshiomole and his godfather”, the source said.

What is not clear however is what deal the said governors have with Obaseki if he eventually win the Edo election.

As at the time of filling this report, it was learnt that series of meetings are being held on how to  drum support for Obaseki.

One area said to be high on the agenda is to deprive the APC candidate the deployment of federal forces which could confer advantages during the election.

“There is a game to impress it on the Presidency to allow free and fair election to protect the legacy of the President as a democrat. If the message sink, the said governors would have achieved their goals”,  another party Chief said.
