11 Nollywood movies, series to watch this February

Grab your calendars and start marking the dates listed below.

As we get into the new year properly, Nollywood filmmakers have been announcing new projects that hit streamers or the cinemas this year.

For the month of love, the number of Nollywood content available is expansive. Either you’re looking for the movies that dominated the box office last year (Orisa), or you’re in the market for a suspense filled thriller (Last Call), this February there is Nollywood content for every taste.

Last Call

Produced by Shola Thompson and Lanre ‘Rugae’ Awolokun, the plot revolves around Hauwa, played by Zainab Balogun, an established on-air personality and influencer who is about to sign out for the last time ever on her famous radio show.

Unfortunately, her farewell live phone-in call puts her in a dangerous conversation with a psychotic and mysterious caller who has kidnapped her mother. If she plans to see her mother alive ever again, she must reveal her deepest and darkest secrets to her listeners live on air.

The cast also includes Valentine Ohu, Seun Ajayi, Bimbo Oshin and Obi Maduegbuna.

Last Call will premiere across cinemas nationwide on February 2, 2024.

Orisa

Initially released across cinemas nationwide on July 31, 2023, Orisa will commence streaming on Prime Video on February 2, 2024.

Produced and directed by Odunlade Adekola, the Yoruba epic film is set in an ancient Yoruba city. The titular Orisa, who is played by Adekola, is a powerful warrior who allies himself with a gang of highly skilled warriors, their nefarious activities posing a problem for the king and the other criminal gangs in the city. A mission goes wrong and a dark secret comes to light which threatens to spell doom for Orisa and his claque of warriors.

The cast includes Femi Adebayo, Shaffy Bello, Jide Kosoko, Dele Odule, Muyiwa Ademola, and Eniola Ajao.

Dead Serious

Produced by David Rukeme, Dead Serious unravels the love dynamics between Sharon Ooja and Sabinus.

Ooja’s father, portrayed by veteran actor Nkem Owoh, disapproves of Sabinus due to his financial status. Yet, this is not the sole obstacle, as the father’s affluent and youthful boss, played by Deyemi Okanlawon, starts expressing interest in Ooja, adding another layer of complexity to Sabinus’ pursuit of love.

Directed by Moses Inwang and produced by David Rukeme, other members of cast includes Warri Girl, Lillian Afegbai, Funky Mallam, Emem Inwang and Ryonne Razaq.

Dead Serious is scheduled for a nationwide cinema release on February 9, 2024.

The Silent Intruder

The feature film revolves around a couple played by Uche Montana and Onyekachi Nnochiri on the verge of separation due to sexual problems. The wife doesn’t give up on the problem and is willing to go to extreme lengths to get things on the right track. However, the situation gets messier when the therapist they approach for help desires the wife at all costs.

Directed by Uyoyou Adia, other cast members include fellow BBNaija alumnus Venita Akpofure, Pere Egbi, Lucy Francesca Ameh, Dotun Oloniyo and Lydia Achebe.

The Silent Intruder will debut across cinemas nationwide on February 9, 2024.

Sadau Sisters

The Showmax series follows the lives of the award-winning Nigerian actress, Rahama Sadau and her three sisters, Aisha, Fatima and Zainab.

The 13-part series features Rahama, most recently known for her latest feature in Netflix’s Wrath And Revenge, as the star of the family, Zainab, a baker and restaurateur, Aisha, a make-up artist and the peace-maker of the family, and then Fatima, a fashion model.

It sheds light on their sisterhood, undisclosed facts about each other, alongside family traumas and controversies.

Flawsome Season Two

The short teaser released on January 22, 2024, unveiled Bisola Aiyeolab who plays Ifeyinwa, struggling in her new role as head of a company, and Rhamat, played by Ini Dima-Okojie, getting served divorce papers by her husband Uduak (Baaj Adebule), as well as Sharon Ooja and Enado Odigie’s zeal to stand by their friends in hard times.

The drama series also stars Gabriel Afolayan, John Dumelo, Iretiola Doyle, Toyin Abraham, Chris Attoh, Ali Nuhu, Joselyn Dumas and Shine Rosman.

The second season will debut on February 12, 2024, on the new Showmax app.

Cheta’M

Produced and directed by James Omokwe, the 130-episode series explores the extraordinary love story of Adanna and Nnanna, who must navigate a world where tension between the kingdoms of Mgberi and Ajaani has reached critical levels.

Cheta M will commence streaming on Showmax from February 12, 2024, with new episodes showing weekly on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

All’s Fair in Love

The feature-length movie centres around two Nigerian business partners (played by Deyemi Okanlawon and Timini Egbuson) and friends who fall madly in love with the same woman and go head-to-head to have a relationship with her.

Produced by Okanlawon, Esse Akwawa and Gloria Obichukwu in collaboration with Film One Studios, Accelerate TV and Covenant Entertainment, the cast includes Samuels, Ireti Doyle, Juliet Ibrahim, Adedimeji Lateef, Beauty Tukura, Venita Akpofure, Kunle Bamtefa, Gbubemi Ejeye, Kenzy Udosen, Oprah Okereke and Timilehin Ojeola.

All’s Fair in Love will debut at the cinemas on February 14, 2024.

When Are We Getting Married Season Two

The show which took flight in 2023, delves into the intricate challenges faced by young Nigerians navigating dating in Nigeria. The protagonist Edith, played by Immaculata Oko Kasum, and Fenwa, played by Ric Hassani, will return as lead cast members facing the realities of marriage.

Produced by Ife Olujuyigbe and directed by Orire Nwani in collaboration with Film Trybe, the upcoming season reveals Edith’s tough time with Fenwa’s family who strongly disapprove of her, whilst he battles to survive an accident that almost claimed his life.

The cast of the YouTube series boasts a stellar lineup, including Ronke Oshodi, Obehi Aburime, Pelumi Buari, Martha Ehiome, Patrick Doyle, Adekunle Olopade, Neo Akpofure, and Vee Iye.

When Are We Getting Married will return for season two on February 14, 2024.

Giannis: The Marvelous Journey

Greek-Nigerian basketball star, Giannis Antetokounmpo will release a documentary film on Prime Video on February 19, 2024.

Giannis: The Marvelous Journey unravels Antetokounmpo’s path from an impoverished childhood in Greece as a Nigerian immigrant to fame as a professional basketball player. The documentary provides a close insight into the life of the two-time league MVP and the incredible track record that has earned him the Finals MVP award.

One Too Many

Written by Ginika Ozioko and Jeanine Okafor, the story follows Adesuwa and her family who always have unfortunate experiences with uniformed men. Her son was wrongly accused of murdering his best friend. Struggling to come to terms with this fate, she resolves to fight for her son and herself.

Directed by Kayode Kasum the cast includes Dakore Egbuson, Chimezie Imo, Omowunmi Dada, Late Rachel Oniga, Jide Kosoko, Paul Utomi, Kelechi Udegbe, Adeolu Funsho, Temilolu Fosudo, Rhoda Albert, Tope Tedela and Ikponmwosa Gold.

One Too Many will commence streaming on Netflix on February 23, 2024.
