There Was No Zoning Arrangement In Enugu State – Ex-Deputy Senate President

A former Deputy President of the Nigeria Senate and gubernatorial aspirant in Enugu state, Ike Ekweremadu, says there was never a zoning arrangement in Enugu state.

Ekweremadu raised this issue while interacting with journalists on “A pathway to new Enugu” on Friday.

Senator Ike Ekweremadu representing Enugu West Senatorial zone, stated his position on the raging zoning argument in Enugu State, stating that he has never been part of zoning because he doesn’t intend to be a zonal governor.

“There’s no zoning discussion in the State because Chimaroke Nnamani isn’t a product of zoning. I was the campaign director during his election and at no point did we discuss zoning. Sullivan Chime wasn’t a product of zoning either,” Ekweremadu said.

However, the former Deputy Senate President said that “During the emergence of the incumbent, there was no discussion of zoning; it was based on equity and justice for Nsukka to produce the governor.”

Continuing, the 3-term deputy president of the Senate said it’s “political treachery” when politicians talk about zoning because they’re simply projecting their interest.

Ekweremadu used the opportunity to announce his campaign director/ coordinator for the 2023 gubernatorial race in Enugu, Mr. Ogboo Asogwa.

Ekweremadu said the event is not a declaration but a continuation of his consultation processes. He promised to provide good governance to the Enugu people if elected governor.

He said he would not touch Local Government funds but would reconstruct all roads leading to the State. Senator Ekweremadu opined, saying those vying political offices must present their plan for the people.

Ekweremadu used the medium to hint at his performances as Senator Representing Enugu West senatorial zone. He noted that beyond Enugu West Senatorial zone, he could attract developmental projects across all parts of Enugu state, such as the attraction of roads construction and other projects at Nome, Ehaamufu, and many others construction in Ette, Obino, Iheaka, and Ovoko.

For him, there would be an impact on the people’s lives if allowed to serve the State.

He promised to run open door governance, fight corruption, introduce an E-government to ensure governance is run 24hours.

“We will look forward to running a government that will see all people equal before the law and reposition Enugu state judiciary. On local government, we have pledged not to interfere in a local government fund.

“We are prepared to end water scarcity in Enugu state by maintenance of existing water sources and provision of dams,” Ekweremadu said.
