Earthquake: ACCI Commiserates With Republic of Turkey, Syria Over Disaster

Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) had commiserated with the Republic Turkey and Syria over the earthquake that rocked both countries in the early hours of Monday leaving thousands dead.

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake was said to have hit the town of Pazarcik Turkey, near Gaziantep, a border community with Syria and has injured so many people while leaving many casualties.

Aljazeera reports that the initial quake was followed by a series of aftershocks and then a 7.5-magnitude quake in the afternoon which drove the death toll to almost 1,800 people with dozens of buildings destroyed.

Turkey’s disaster and emergency management authority confirmed that the earthquake struck at 4:17 a.m. local time, in what has been described as the country’s most seismic occurrence in years.

The President of ACCI, Dr Al-Mujtaba Abubakar in a press statement by the Media department of the Chamber expressed deep condolence to the Republic of Turkey and Syria.

He also sympathised with the Turkish and Syrian business communities in Nigeria while praying for help to pull through this period of pain and for speedy recovery for the injured.
