President Tinubu Appoints Shonubi as Acting CBN Governor After Suspending Emefiele

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as the new acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

Shonubi’s appointment came after the suspension of the immediate past CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, on Friday, June 9.

The new acting CBN Governor until his appointment, served as the Deputy Governor of the Operations Directorate at the apex bank.

Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Ononuga, made the announcement via his official Twitter page late on Friday night.

Ononuga gave a brief history of Shonubi’s career history as he has been in the capacity of the apex bank’s Deputy Governor, Operations Directorate, since October 2018 and studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos.

He also represents the CBN on the board of FIRS.

Sahel Standard early reported that Emefiele was ordered to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to Shonubi, who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.
