Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has attributed the state’s latest achievements in National Education Council rankings to the commitment and diligence of teachers across the state.
Adeleke gave the attribute while hosting the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Osun State Chapter, led by NUT Chairman Comr. Babalola Isaac Babatunde and NLC Chairman Comr. Christopher Arapasopo at the Governor’s Office in Abere on Tuesday.
In his address, Adeleke praised teachers for what he described as an instrumental role in repositioning education in Osun, noting that Osun’s rise from 33rd position it was in 2022 to 7th position in National examinations was a direct result of the dedication of its teachers.
“Let me commend the NUT for the latest good news in town. Osun is now ranked 7th position in national examinations from 33rd in 2022. This calls for celebration. You, our committed teachers, made it possible. Congratulations to every team member.”
Adeleke also acknowledged the contributions of the teaching workforce to his administration’s achievements in the education sector, while assuring them that their welfare remains a top priority under his leadership.
“I reassure Osun teachers that we are not and we will not joke with their welfare. Everything humanly possible is being done to improve working conditions and the learning environment in our schools. These efforts will continue unabated.
“I must particularly note the recent endorsement of my candidature for second term by Osun workers. The endorsement of which the NUT is part and parcel made me emotional. I was overwhelmed by the deep level of trust Osun workers reposed in me. That endorsement challenged me to further intensify the implementation of our five point agenda of which workers’ welfare is number one.
“Through you, I reassure Osun teachers that we are not and we will not joke with their welfare. Everything humanly possible is being done to improve working conditions and the learning environment in our schools. These efforts will continue unabated”, He reiterated.
Earlier while speaking, NUT Chairman Comrade Babalola Isaac Babatunde, commended Adeleke’s administration for regular salary payments, infrastructural interventions in schools, and the implementation of the new minimum wage, describing the governor as ‘teachers’ governor’.
“Your achievements within this short period show that the confidence reposed in you is not misplaced.
“Your Excellency sir, we want to heartily appreciate you for the achievements you have recorded within a short period of your rule as the Chief Executive of our dear state The achievements are numerous but permit me to mention just a few.
“Implementation of new minimum wage; Regular payment of salaries and other deduction to the workers of Osun State; Distribution of instructional materials to schools; Construction and rehabilitation of many deplorable roads in Osun State; Payment of Salary Arrears to all categories of workers in Osun State; Renovation of some classrooms and school structures”, He noted.
