Grave Assault on the Bench: APC Lawyer, Saka Layoonu, SAN Disrupts Court Proceeding

There was a mild drama at a Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo on Tuesday when an APC Lawyer, Saka Layoonu, SAN disrupted the court proceeding as the judge, was making his pronouncement in a case between Osun state Government and UBA.

Layoonu who is not a counsel on record had earlier told the judge that he was in court alongside, Kunle Adegoke, SAN, Gbadamosi SAN as an observer.

However, upon hearing the ruling by Magistrate Adeyeba restraining UBA from further transactions with APC Chairmen or take any action on all the accounts with local government fund, Layoonu SAN flared up and directed the APC counsel, H.B Williams to leave the court.

The Magistrate who was infuriated by this statements then warned the counsel that he will order his remand if he ever attempt to walk out on him.

Layonu further threatened to drag the judge before the National Judicial Council for daring to rule against the UBA.

Recall that the Speaker of Osun House of Assembly had stated recently in a press conference that APC was planning to pay Saka Layoonu and Co a sum of N13billion as legal fee on the said local government fund.

Lawyers and members of the public were shocked at the action of the the action of Saka Layoonu, SAN, describing the conduct as a clear violation of judicial order and a clear attempt to intimidate the Magistrate from discharging his constitutional duty.

“This is an open assault on the bench. Layonu is a senior lawyer and his confrontation with the judge is a violation of ethics and court rules”, a legal practitioner at the court submitted.
