Osun Govt Media Centre Accuses APC of “Selling” LAUTECH, Demands Accountability

The Osun State Government Media Centre has launched a scathing attack on the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of mismanaging and ultimately relinquishing the state’s stake in Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH).

In a statement issued in Osogbo, the Media Centre alleged that the APC administration deliberately underfunded and neglected the institution over several years, leading to its eventual transfer to Oyo State. The statement described the move as a “betrayal” of the people of Osun, claiming the university was treated as a disposable asset.

The government body further accused former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and former Commissioner for Finance, Bola Oyebamiji, of overseeing the decision to cede the institution, arguing that it was done without adequate regard for the future of Osun students.

According to the statement, LAUTECH suffered prolonged financial challenges, including unpaid salaries and allowances for staff, which the Media Centre attributed to what it described as consistent failure by the APC-led government to release necessary subventions.

The statement also criticized the outcome of the arrangement, noting that Osun State received a College of Health Sciences in Osogbo in place of its stake in the university, which it described as inadequate.

The statement partly reads;

Let us be blunt, LAUTECH did not collapse overnight. It was deliberately strangled of funds, mismanaged, and abandoned over years by a government more interested in lining their personal pockets than educating our youth. Osun under APC owned subventions. Workers went unpaid for months and years, allowances and entitlements ignored, all on public record.

“Osun APC ganged up against the university. They refused to release funds consistently, worsened every crisis, and allowed LAUTECH to bleed under their negligence. Then, in a brazen act of betrayal, Oyetola as Governor, and Oyebamiji as Finance Commissioner sold the institution to Oyo State, as if the hard-earned asset of Osun people was theirs to dispose of.

“This was not a forced sale. It was voluntary. It was greed. It was incompetence masquerading as governance. The people of Osun were treated like pawns, their future mortgaged for APC political expediency.

What Osun got in return was a mere College of Health Sciences in Osogbo. What an insult! A once-proud university was reduced to crumbs. That is the legacy of APC in Osun; abandonment, betrayal, and contempt for the people they claim to serve.

First, they failed to fund it. Then, they used that failure as justification to sell it.

While the APC crawls in excuses, the current administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke has demonstrated what true leadership looks like. From the ruins left by the akotileta APC, we have rebuilt Osun State University to enviable heights. Fully funded, stable, respected, and thriving. That is the difference between leadership and APC’s reckless abandonment.

The people of Osun must demand answers:

Why did APC starve LAUTECH for years?

Why were workers left to suffer while APC played politics and enriched itself?

Why did APC sell out a critical asset of Osun State with zero care for our children’s future?

This is the bitter truth; APC failed. APC abused. APC betrayed. And APC must be made to answer for it accordingly, the statement concluded.
