The Dee Osun Monitors has cautioned against attempts to link Governor Ademola Adeleke to the ongoing police investigation into an alleged assassination attempt on Hon. Wole Oke, insisting that due process must be allowed to run its full course.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its Coordinator, Prince Jide Akinyooye (FCA), the group said it had reviewed a press release by one Akin Adeyi titled “Assassination Attempt on Hon. Wole Oke: Governor Ademola Adeleke Must Be Held Accountable,” describing it as premature and politically motivated.
The group alleged what it called a pattern of consistent hostility towards Governor Adeleke by the author, warning that such conduct was capable of undermining constructive political engagement in the state.
It maintained that the ongoing investigation by the Osun State Police Command into the incident involving Hon. Wole Oke should be allowed to proceed without interference or media trial.
“The Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, has confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that other persons of interest are being tracked. As at today, no charge sheet, no court process, and no police report has linked Governor Adeleke to the incident,” the statement said.
The group stressed that the principle of presumption of innocence must be respected, warning against what it described as attempts to convict individuals in the court of public opinion while investigations are still ongoing.
It further stated that Governor Adeleke, in his capacity as Chief Security Officer of the state, has a constitutional responsibility to speak on issues of insecurity, condemn violence, and call for calm when necessary.
“His comments on the Rogba Ajayi case were made in that capacity. That is leadership, not recklessness,” the statement added.
Commending the security agencies, the group praised the police for their swift intervention in foiling the attack on Hon. Wole Oke, noting that ongoing arrests reflected active efforts to maintain security in the state.
It also said the state government had continued to support security agencies through cooperation and provision of resources aimed at strengthening public safety.
The group urged political actors to avoid what it described as turning governance into a political conflict, warning that such narratives could distract from development efforts.
“Osun people did not elect a gladiator. They elected a Governor to deliver infrastructure, worker’s welfare, and peace across party lines,” it stated.
Reacting to continued criticism of the governor, the group appealed for restraint in political commentary and urged stakeholders to prioritise peace, stability and development in Osun State.
It also called on citizens to support the current administration in its efforts to sustain peace and good governance.
Reaffirming its position, the group condemned all forms of political violence and expressed solidarity with Hon. Wole Oke over the incident, while urging security agencies to conclude their investigation without fear or bias.
“Let the Police investigate. Let the courts decide. Let Osun breathe. Let Osun progress,” the statement concluded.
