The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has suffered another setback following the resignation of Chief (Dr.) Peter Taiwo Ogundeji, popularly known as Apata, from the party.

Ogundeji, a former aspirant for the Osun West Senatorial District, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 11, 2026, addressed to the APC Chairman of Ward 6, Ola, in Ejigbo Local Government Area.

According to the letter, his resignation takes immediate effect.

Explaining the reason for his decision, Ogundeji said it came after careful consideration and extensive consultations with his political associates and supporters.

“This decision followed deep personal reflection and extensive consultations. While it was not an easy one, I believe it is in the overall interest of my political convictions and future aspirations,” he said.

He noted that the decision reflected the collective aspirations of those who have stood by him politically over the years.

“In reaching this position, I carefully considered the views, concerns and aspirations of my political associates, supporters and other stakeholders who have stood by me. I remain deeply appreciative of their unwavering loyalty and confidence, and believe this step reflects our shared commitment to pursuing our political ideals in an atmosphere of fairness, inclusiveness and mutual respect,” the letter read.

Despite leaving the party, Ogundeji expressed appreciation to the APC for the opportunity to serve and contribute to its development.

“I sincerely appreciate the opportunities the party gave me to serve, contribute to its growth, and work alongside many committed leaders and members. I remain grateful for the relationships forged and the valuable experiences gained during my membership,” he stated.

He urged the party to accept the letter as his formal notice of resignation.

Copies of the resignation letter were also forwarded to the APC Chairman in Ejigbo Local Government Area and the Chairman of the party’s Osun State chapter.

Ogundeji’s resignation adds to the wave of political movements in Osun State as political parties and stakeholders continue consultations ahead of future elections.
