By Waliu Adetokun, Osogbo
Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful, free and credible governorship election, assuring residents that every eligible voter will be allowed to exercise their constitutional right without intimidation or harassment.
The governor gave the assurance on Monday at the Osun Election Peace and Security Summit organised by Kimpact Development Initiative in Osogbo. He was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Political Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations, Dr. Biyi Odunlade.
Adeleke commended Kimpact Development Initiative and other democratic stakeholders for their efforts in promoting peaceful political participation across the state, describing their contributions as essential to strengthening democracy and enhancing public confidence in the electoral process.
He said, “Our administration remains committed to protecting democratic values and guaranteeing an atmosphere where every citizen can freely exercise his or her constitutional right to vote without intimidation or harassment.”
The governor stressed that the success of any democratic process depends on the collective efforts of all stakeholders, noting that peaceful elections are fundamental to sustainable development.
According to him, “No political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen. Our administration has consistently resisted every temptation to abuse the powers of office or employ unlawful measures against perceived political opponents.”
He added that democracy can only flourish when government institutions, political parties, civil society organisations and citizens work together in pursuit of the common good.
Adeleke also reaffirmed his administration’s support for security agencies, saying the government would continue to provide the necessary backing for them to carry out their constitutional responsibilities while respecting their professional independence.
He urged all political parties, candidates, supporters and the electorate to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the election.
The governor said, “I encourage all stakeholders to remain committed to peaceful coexistence and credible electoral practices. We must respect the sanctity of the ballot and place the collective interest of Osun State above partisan considerations.”
He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.
“The enduring peace, unity and progress of Osun State must remain the shared responsibility of every stakeholder,” Adeleke said.
