Violence Won’t Stop Adeleke’s Re-Election, Osun Accord Tells Oyebamiji

The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has accused the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, of allegedly sponsoring violence and political intimidation, insisting that such actions will not stop Governor Ademola Adeleke from securing a second term in office.
The party made the allegation in a statement issued on Sunday in Osogbo by its State Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, while responding to what it described as a “falsehood-laden statement” credited to the APC.
According to the Accord, the APC and its governorship candidate have allegedly resorted to violence in a bid to intimidate voters ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
“Your violent attacks on the people of Osun will not stop the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke. The people of the state have rejected violence and will freely exercise their democratic rights,” Akande said.
The party alleged that the APC had a history of political violence in the state, claiming that more than 40 of its members were killed during the 2022 governorship election.
“In 2022, the governor lost over 40 members of his party to attacks allegedly carried out by the Osun APC. The families of those victims are still grieving, and till today, no investigation or prosecution has taken place,” the statement said.
The Accord also claimed that eight of its members had been killed during the current electioneering period, while more than 20 others sustained gunshot injuries.
“In 2026, Osun Accord lost eight members, while over 20 others suffered gunshot wounds, allegedly at the hands of agents working for Mr. Oyebamiji. Those responsible for the violence are now seeking to take control of motor parks and garages. The people of Osun know the facts,” the party alleged.
The statement further accused some supporters of the APC of carrying out attacks in vehicles branded with the campaign identity of the party’s governorship candidate.
It also alleged that certain officers within the Osun State Police Command were collaborating with political thugs to arrest Accord members on what it described as trumped-up charges.
“Mr. Oyebamiji and the Osun APC have adopted violence as a campaign strategy to frighten voters and discourage them from participating in the election. More than 60 Accord members are currently in detention without trial,” the statement claimed.
Expressing confidence in the party’s chances at the poll, Akande maintained that the electorate had resolved not to be intimidated.
“Osun people have rejected fear. They are determined to come out in large numbers and vote. By the grace of God and the will of the people, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election is a done deal,” he said.
The APC and its governorship candidate had not issued any response to the allegations as of the time this report was filed.
