Adeleke Charges Osun Voters to Ignore Threats, Vote Accord on August 15

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has charged residents of the State to disregard alleged threats and intimidation ahead of the August 15 governorship election and come out in large numbers to vote for his re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.
The governor gave the charge on Sunday while addressing a packed congregation during a church service at Winners’ Chapel in Osogbo.
Adeleke alleged that leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi and Hon. Wole Oke, had resorted to violence because, according to him, the people had rejected them.
“Because the people have rejected them, because voters have endorsed me, because defeat stared them in the face, they resorted to violence. We are not scared. Osun people are not afraid,” the governor said.
Charging voters not to be intimidated on election day, Adeleke assured them that adequate measures were in place to guarantee their safety.
“On August 15, Osun people will show agents of violence that we are not cowards. Our people’s safety is guaranteed. Come out and vote. Punish those killing and maiming our people by voting against them on August 15.
“We are not scared of the Osun APC. We have the capacity and the strength, but we care about the safety of our people. My primary goal is the protection and safety of my people. My people, come out and vote your conscience,” he said.
The governor also expressed confidence in his chances at the polls, saying the achievements of his administration across key sectors had earned him the support of the electorate.
“God gives power to whom He wills. Our achievements in workers’ welfare, health, education, infrastructure, agriculture and other sectors speak for us.
“I will be victorious against Mr. Oyebamiji and the Osun APC on August 15. We represent the light and we shall overcome darkness. Osun people must rise, and they are rising. We must, and we are, fighting for our right to vote and be voted for,” Adeleke stated.
Earlier, the Resident Pastor of Winners’ Chapel, Pastor Adekunle Oluseyi, declared the new month a season of “reign and showers of blessings” and offered prayers for the governor, asking God to grant him wisdom and strength to continue leading the state.
