The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has commended progress of work on the laying of cables for the Osun Broadband Fibre Optic, a fully private sector funded initiative which is part of the administration’s tech innovations and digital economy agenda.
Governor Adeleke had on March 6th flagged off the laying of cables for the broadband fiber optics project, waved payment of Right of Way for the project and launched the state’s first tech innovations, ICT and Start Up policies.
For creating the enabling environment, waving the RoW and enforcing the take off of the project, the State’s benefits will include free broadband internet access for schools, health institutions and government offices as well as expansion of internet access in line with the National Broadband Policy.
The Governor who recently received an interim report on the implementation phase expressed delight that the field work is progressing well and called on the licensed firm to keep to the time scheduled for the exercise.
“I am delighted to announce that Oodua Infraco has commenced full physical ducting infrastructure built in the following locations namely Ikire, Ede, Osogbo and Ile Ife.We are not joking.
“I have actually inspected some of the sites. We can also see the ongoing work in various areas listed in this first phase. It is a thing of joy that Osun is on the road to full internet connectivity. Our administration’s digital economy agenda is on course.
“We have read many positive reviews locally and internationally about our tech plans, from TechCabal to stears and others. I’m a Governor in love with digital trends. That is the new oil blocs. And I want Osun to be a leading tech hub.
“I know that dream is not possible without internet infrastructure. That explains my deep interest in the broadband Fiber optic project. I waved the payment for the Right of Way. I’m happy the National Communication Commission and other agencies have confirmed our readiness to expand internet access in Osun state.
“I thank the various communities for cooperating with Oodua Infraco as the laying of the cables is ongoing. I must also appreciate the professionalism of the Ministries of Science and Tech innovations/Works/Environment/Water and the Infraco team. Osun is eager for 100 percent internet connectivity through broadband backbone infrastructure”, the State Governor noted
