The Osun State Police Command has paraded 9 suspects for various offences bordering on conspiracy, cultism, robbery and murder.
While parading the suspects on Wednesday in Osogbo, the Osun State Police Spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola said, five suspects, Ibrahim Qudus ‘M’ 26, Adeleke Taiwo ‘M’ 23, Ojo Ayobami ‘M’ 26, Ojo Oretu ‘M’ 24, and Adeleke Kehinde ‘M’ 23 were arrested for cultism and murder of one man identified as Abiodun Toyeeb Apalara in Esa-oke.
Items recovered from the suspects include: one Axe, one Ash coloured Toyota Corolla car with reg. no. AP 806 FC, one White coloured Toyota muscle car with reg. no. SMK 182 GB, three (3) iphones and criminal charms
According to Opalola; “On 27th April, 2023 at about 1400hrs, upon a distress call that there was a fracas among some hoodlums suspected to be cultists in Esa-Oke which led to the death of one male person later known to be one Abiodun Toyeeb Apalara.
“Immediately, the Police team from the Special Anti-Cultism unit swung into action and subsequently, the leader of the gang one Ibrahim Qudus and additional four (4) suspects were arrested.
“Investigation mechanisms revealed that the late Abiodun Toyeeb Apalara ‘m’ was a member of Alora confraternity also known as Buccaneer confraternity and was killed by some armed hoodlums suspected to be members of Black Axe confraternity also known as Aye confraternity led by the first suspect. The above two vehicles were used for the operation of the dastard act.”
Also paraded are Mojeed Olarenwaju ‘M’ 29, Ahmed Jelili ‘M’ 40, Azeez Tunde ‘M’ 32 and Bakare Soliu ‘M’ 25, who were arrested for conspiracy, robbery and unlawful possession of five motorcycles.
The five motorcycles are one TVS Lady with reg.no DED 519 UW, one BAJAJ with reg. no. EDE 494 QE, one BAJAJ with reg. no. FDY 372 UF, one BAJAJ with reg. no. GNN 456 UF and one unregistered BAJAJ.
“On 30th April, 2023 at about 0600hrs upon intelligence which revealed that some hoodlums suspected to be notorious motorcycle snatchers who had been terrorizing Osogbo and its environs were sighted at Alie Area, along Oke-Baale, Osogbo, the Police team from the Special Anti-Cultism unit swung into action and the above suspects were arrested.
“Investigation revealed that the first three suspects are ex-convicts. The first suspect served his jail term in Ile- Ife correctional centre while the second and third suspects served their jail terms in Ilesa correctional centre. Upon their release from the correctional centres in the year 2021 and 2022 respectively, they re-strategized and continued with their nefarious act before nemesis caught up with them. The fourth suspect who is a mechanic by profession is one of the receivers of the stolen motorcycles. After buying the stolen motorcycles, he will re-assemble them before reselling to his unsuspecting customers. Two of the motorcycles were recovered from the first suspect’s room,” the Police PRO said.
Opalola added that all the nine suspects will be charged to court after the completion of investigation.
