Osun State Government has warned motorists, especially commercial minibus drivers popularly known as ‘Korope’ and motorcyclists against unlawful parking of vehicles and motorcycles by the road sides.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Sesan Oyedele, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Oladapo Fashina gave the warning on Tuesday while responding to questions on a popular radio programme tagged: ‘Aabo Loju Popo’
He said the unlawful parking of vehicles by the road sides is a serious offence which will no longer be overlooked.
Mr Fashina noted that vehicles are meant to be parked completely off the road so as not to impede other road users thereby causing obstruction to the free flow of traffic within the towns.
According to him; “Commercial minibuses popularly known as ‘Korope’ and motorcyclists are more culpable of the offence especially when they want to stop to pick passengers.
“Henceforth, officials of the Ministry of Transportation will henceforth enforce compliance, the Commissioner also warned drivers against the use of earpiece while driving saying it has caused a number of accidents on the road.”
The Permanent Secretary urged motorists to maintain the normal speed limit and avoid overspeeding cause it has taken a lot of lives unexpectedly.
