…charges the fourth estate of the realm to uphold peacemaking
The Osun state House of Assembly has charged members of the fourth Estate of the Realm in the private sector of the state to be more mindful of their roles in dispute and conflict management, following their actions in the ongoing Ifon/Ilobu land dispute crises.
The Lawmakers made the call following an issue raised under matters of urgent public importance by Member Representing Irepodun/Orolu – Hon. Oladimeji Emmanuel during the plenary.
Hon. Oladimeji expressed utmost dismay at the level of insensitivity at which private media stations in the state peddle information about the crises at hand despite the release that media stations should stare clear of discussions around the issue that may incite while the case is still in court.
The lawmaker expressed that not only should the erring media stations be reprimanded but also sanctioned for flouting the release and trigerring issues that remain sensitive.
In his response, the speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun who aligned himself with the prayers of the Member Representing Orolu, charged the House Committee on Media and Publicity and other relevant stakeholders in the case to meet and come up with urgent solutions, then report back to the General Assembly.
In another light, the speaker announced that the public hearing of the Osun State Disability Protection Bill 2023, shall come up during the week and all relevant stakeholders are enjoined to come along with their copies of Memorandum to the hearing.
Also, Osun State Employment Trust Fund Bill, 2023 and Osun State Local Government Creation and Administration Amendment Bill, 2023 passed their first reading, while the General Assembly dissolved into the committee of Bureau for further consideration, amendment and correction of errors during the Osun State Tertiary Staff Retirement Age Amendment No 1 Bill, 2023 and the Osun Road Maintenance Agency Establishment Bill, 2023.
