The Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has described the location of Federal College of Education in Iwo as a blessing to the state as it helps improve the income of the town and state in general.
He also appreciated the federal government’s efforts for siting the institution in Osun, out of the six states in the southwest.
Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi stated this on Wednesday at the Government Secretariat, Osogbo while receiving the institution’s governing council led by Justice Muhammad Ambursa on behalf of the Governor.
He stated the importance of having students presence in any town or state, stating that their presence brings economic improvements.
According to him; “We cannot thank the Federal government enough, at least for siting a Federal Colleges of Education here in Osun because I see this institution as a blessing to the state, as it will benefit everyone in the state.
“This Institution will help boost the capital interest of the town as any town where students presence is, it turns around the economic standard of the place”.
Speaking further, Adewusi said there is still more to be done on the part of the state government to assist the institution in the interest of growth and sustainability of the institution.
“One thing I that I want to assure you is that we will do everything possible to ensure that the school is assisted in whatever form so that the federal government will not regret bringing it here. Please Provost, you still have to take further steps by writing an official letter to my principal regarding these six requests of yours. The Commissioner of Education will work on it, the we can attend to them one after the other because all the items can’t be attended to at once. We will attend to them in order of preference”, the deputy governor noted.
He thanked the governing council for the visit and applauded them for relentless efforts in growing the school.
In his remarks, The Chairman, Governing Council of Federal College of Education, Iwo, Justice Muhammad Ambursa lauded the State Governor, Ademola Adeleke for his dynamism, cordial relationship and peaceful co-existence among his people. He also applauded the landmark achievements that Adeleke’s administration has recorded in education sector and infrastructural developments in less than two years in office.
Justice Ambursa however reiterated the need for the assistance of State government to help the institution in the areas of electrification of the main campus, donation of 18 seater bus for the use of the students, construction of medical centre, construction of students hostels and many other requests.
He said, “Your Excellency, your timely intervention will go a long way for our young college to grow faster and be a force to be reckoned with in the comity of colleges of education in Nigeria. It will equally show that our dear state appreciates the siting of the college in the state.”
