Osun APC today suffered another setback as Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, welcomed Comrade Lekan Salami, the former chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Osun State and a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to his office today.
During his interaction with the House Speaker, Salami, a staunch APC supporter, announced his intention to lead thousands of his followers tp officially defect to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the statement signed by Olamide Tiamiyu,Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker,Osun State House of Assembly on Thursday noted that, Salami’s decision is viewed as a move that could further solidify the ruling party’s influence in Osun State while promoting unity and development.
During the visit, Salami praised the advancements and growth experienced in Osun under the leadership of His Excellency, Sen. Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke.
He highlighted significant improvements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare as key factors influencing his decision to join the PDP.
“The positive changes we’ve seen in the state, such as improved road networks, the clearing of salary arrears, and the upgrading of health centers, have significantly enhanced the living standards of our people, fostering a renewed sense of hope,” Salami stated.
He continued, “Mr. Speaker, we’ve discussed this before, but I am here to formally inform you that my supporters and I are ready to join your party, the PDP. I previously opposed Sen. Adeleke during the gubernatorial elections because I doubted his capabilities.
However, the positive impact of his administration is now evident throughout the state. Who could have imagined that my hometown, Ilesa, would see a dualized road soon? Development is what unites us; it transcends personal interests.”
In response, Speaker Egbedun warmly welcomed Salami, expressing his enthusiasm for the new strength and experience that Salami and his followers will bring to the PDP, saying, “I am thrilled to welcome you into our fold.”
“Your wealth of experience and dedication to the people of Osun will undoubtedly enhance our efforts in promoting development and good governance,” he affirmed.
Egbedun emphasised that Salami’s integration into the PDP is not just a political strategy but a crucial step in enhancing the government’s capacity to fulfill its promises to the citizens.
He assured the people that Sen. Adeleke’s administration is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where every voice is heard and valued.
“What you have witnessed in terms of development in Osun is only the beginning. This administration is committed to implementing policies that will uplift all communities and ensure sustainable development across the state,” he added.
The speaker also hinted at the party’s commitment to harnessing fresh ideas and perspectives that will pave the way for a brighter future for all residents of Osun State.
