Minimum Wage: Osun, labour to sign new agreement

The chairman of the Trade Union Congress in Osun State, Mr. Abimbola Fasasi, has said formal agreement that would determine the implementation of new minimum wage in the state had yet to be signed.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, had approved a sum of N75,000 as the new minimum wage for workers in the state.

Fasasi disclosed this in an interview with newmen on Sunday.

He said the committee handling the negotiations would work towards getting the agreement signed before the deadline of December 1 set by the national labour movement.

The TUC boss further explained that the negotiation committee was at the point of agreeing to a table which has addressed the consequential adjustment.

“It is when we achieve that, that we are going to sign a formal agreement detailing everything, i.e. the implementation day and all that. All these are expected to be done between Monday and Tuesday, all things being equal,” has said.

Asked if workers in the state would obey directive of the national labour movement if the December 1 deadline was not met, Fasasi said, “We are part of the congress and whatever the national leadership directs, that, we are duty-bound to comply with.

“However, I am confident we won’t be caught in that web. As it is now, it is certain we will be done with every necessary action before that deadline. We are very much good to make it happen before December 1st, by God’s grace. And the table is what every worker in the state would be proud of.”
