LG Crisis: Never succumb to political pressure, remain impartial – Osun group tells Tinubu, AGF

A Pan-political group identified as Dee Osun Monitors has urged President Bola Tinubu and Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, to remain impartial and not succumb to political pressure that may compromise the integrity of the judiciary over the recent crisis caused by judgement delivered by the Court of Appeal, Akure, on the administration of local governments in Osun State.

This was contained in a statement signed by Prince Jide Akinyooye (Coordinator) and Alhaji Saheed Agboluaje (CHAIRMAN) of the group on Tuesday and obtained by SAHEL STANDARD correspondent in Osogbo, the State Capital.

Prince Akinyooye urged the President to be wary of his party’s political bigwigs, who may want to take advantage of federal might to silence and dislodge the incumbent administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the State, by tactically ensuring that sacked Chairmen and Councillors of All Progressive Congress Party are reinstated against subsisting judicial decisions.

He implored them to consider the long-term implications of any actions taken in response to the judgement as the people of Osun State, Nigerians and World are watching with keen interest, stating that any perceived attempt to subvert the course of justice may erode the trust and confidence in the institutions of government.

“Following widely circulated rumors on backdoor scheming that some political bigwigs has gotten assurance that the Federal Government will soon take advantage of federal might to silence and dislodge incumbent administration of Senator Nurudeen Jackson Ademola Adeleke in Osun State by tactically ensuring the sacked Chairmen and Councillors of All Progressive Congress in Osun State are returned against subsisting judicial decisions

“As a Pan-political organisation, we bring to your attention the recent judgement delivered by the Court of Appeal Akure regarding the administration of local governments in Osun State. While we acknowledge the importance of respecting the rule of law, we are equally concerned about the purported requests to manipulate the interpretation of this judgement for political gain.

“As the chief law officer of the federation and President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. we urge you to remain impartial and not succumb to any form of political pressure that may compromise the integrity of the judiciary. The Attorney General’s office has a sacred responsibility to uphold the Constitution and ensure that the law is applied fairly and justly.

“In light of the above, we respectfully request that you:

  • Uphold the principles of justice, fairness, and impartiality in your handling of this matter
  • Resist any attempts to manipulate or twist the interpretation of the judgement for political gain
  • Ensure that the rights of all parties involved are protected and respected

“We believe that your office has a critical role to play in promoting the rule of law and defending the integrity of the judiciary. We urge you to remain steadfast in your commitment to upholding the principles of justice and fairness”, he concluded.

Prince Akinyooye, however, commended the effort of the Presidency through the office of Attorney General of the Federation on the struggle to ensure that governance is felt at grassroots through its different progressive initiative that warrants continued support for your leadership and good governance.
