Meeting of Committee of Chiefs of Defense Staff of ECOWAS Member States Holds in Accra

Accra, capital of Ghana, will host from May 5 to 6, 2022, an extraordinary meeting of the ECOWAS Chiefs of Staff Committee. 

On this occasion, the senior officers will discuss together the implementation of the recommendations resulting from their 41st session held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire from November 17 to 19, 2021 devoted to the analysis of the regional security situation due to the attacks. terrorists and the increase in unlawful acts at sea.

Indeed, it was at the end of their last meeting in Abidjan that a certain number of recommendations were formulated, including (a) the operational reinforcement of the forces of the countries on the front line against terrorism through the training and the acquisition of specific equipment, (b) the reinforcement of the logistical capacities of the forces of the countries on the front line and (c) the financial support for the planning and conduct of joint operations along the borders of the countries of the front line. This last action will involve financial support from the ECOWAS Commission in the organization of the joint operation between Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Niger and Togo.

During their work, the members of the Committee of Chiefs of Defense Staff of ECOWAS will discuss the priorities for operational and logistical support, and the modalities for allocating these capacities to the States concerned.

As a reminder, the Committee of Chiefs of Staff is an institutional body of ECOWAS responsible for the prevention and management of conflicts in the region and bringing together all the heads of the Armies of the fifteen (15) Member States of the West African Organization.
