The Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Ademola Adeleke has charged the 1803 Corps members deployed to Osun State and 700 dislodged from Lagos State to see the NYSC scheme as a call to a higher responsibility and accountability, and not as a waste of time.

Speaking at the swearing-in and official opening ceremony of the 2023 Batch A Stream II orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Friday, the Governor appreciated the Corps members for obeying the clarion call to serve the nation and indulge them to be responsible and law abiding.

Governor Adeleke urged the newly sworn-in Corps members to embrace entrepreneurship and use their creativity and innovation to contribute meaningfully to society.

In his words, “Dear Compatriots in service, I urge you to join us to make our economy bigger and stronger by embracing skills acquisition and entrepreneurship. Be creative and innovative as graduates. Do not only think of consuming but rather begin to think of what you can produce or offer as a solution to human needs and problems.

“Imbibe the mindset of an entrepreneur and toll the path of diligence, hard work and industry, which is the key to lasting success and prosperity.”

Senator Adeleke enjoined the Corps members to take their three-week orientation program seriously and purposely as it’s a life transforming scheme that will prepare them for higher responsibilities and nation building.

Also, he admonished the newly inducted Members not to be in haste to redeploy from Osun as the state is “beautiful and relatively peaceful. Her people are peace-loving and accommodating. So therefore do not be in a hurry to leave the State through relocation, but rather stay back to enjoy the serene environment, cheap commodities and love of the good people of the State.

Adeleke said; “I assured Corps members that their security is guaranteed. My government will continue to work towards providing adequate security and a friendly environment for you to serve successfully.

“I want you to let go of all negative preconceptions and misconceptions which are capable of maring the fun of the service year.

“Make friends and relate freely with one another cherishing and respecting your differences while diligently discovering your similarities. It will surprise you to know and discover that what bonds us together as a nation is more and stronger than that which divides us.

“I urged Corps members not to go against the rules and regulations laid down by the government and the NYSC Scheme.

“Let me at this juncture further advice you to obey all rules and regulations. Be a law-abiding citizen and always embrace peaceful coexistence, wholesome friendship, honesty and virtues. Do not indulge yourselves in frivolities and exuberances associated with modern youths but strive to stand out and be different in order to secure your place in the future.”

“Finally, i want to appreciate the NYSC staffers and collaborating agencies for their exemplary services.”

Speaking, the Osun State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Agbor Ndoma Obim also encouraged prospective Corps members (PCMs) to maximize their service year by engaging in community development service.

Agbor in his introductory speech made it known that a total number of 1803 Corps Members comprisiing 840 Male and 963 Females have been deployed to the State for the one-year mandatory service while 700 were dislodged from Lagos State for the three weeks Orientation Course.

He emphasized the importance of the three weeks Orientation Course to the achievement of the objective, vision and mission of the NYSC program. He charged them to take the program seriously and to participate actively in all course activities.

“The Orientation camp gives you a better understanding of the Scheme and also helps to familarize you with the State of your deployment. Furthermore, the Orientation Programme prepares you for your unique role in nation building”, he said.

Agbor reminded the Corps members to always positively represent NYSC, their families and the nation at large via their social media handles.

He said, “Do not use your social media handles to spread hatred or peddle fake news but learn to preach love and oneness everywhere you go.”

“As you navigate the first phase of the service year, I urge you to look inwards and begin to strategize on how you will contribute to the development of the people of the State”.

As this year marks the golden jubilee of the Scheme, Agbor highlighted how the Scheme has fostered the socioeconomic development of the nation, inter-ethnic relationships and marriages, industrial and entrepreneurial collaborations, among others.

He ended his address with calls for more support for the Scheme in Osun State.

The National Pledge and NYSC Oath of Allegiance were administered by Hon. Justice Ayotunde Oyeyemi Oyebisi who represented the Hon. Chief Judge of Osun State, Hon. Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo.

The guests were equally thrilled to a tug of war and cultural dance entertainment.
