The Wife of the Governor of Osun State, Her Excellency, Amb. Erelu Ngozi Abeni Adeleke, has welcomed the first baby of the year 2026 in the state, describing the birth as a symbol of hope and new beginnings for the people of Osun.
The baby was born at exactly 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at the Teaching Hospital Cottage, Ede, to the family of Mr. Rukayat and Abdulrasheed Yisa.
Her Excellency was represented at the event by the Osun State Commissioner for Health, Barrister Jola Akintola, and the Chairperson, Obokun Local Government Education Authority Board, Hon. Babaniyi Oluwatoyin, who led her team to receive the newborn on her behalf in her capacity as the Mother of the State.
On behalf of the Wife of the Governor, cash gifts and essential baby items were presented to the family as a show of support and goodwill to mark the New Year.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Chief Medical Officer of the hospital, Dr. Alade, the Deputy Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Okunola Christianah; the hospital matron, members of the Governor’ s wife’s team, and other members of the hospital management.
The event was concluded with prayers and goodwill messages for the newborn and the family.
