NNPP suspends Ondo guber candidate, Edema, deputy, others

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), in Ondo state, on Tuesday, suspended its governorship candidate and his deputy governorship candidate in the last November governorship election in the state, Hon. Gbenga Edema and Rotimi Adeyemi respectively.

The State Working Committee of NNPP also ratified the suspension of a chieftain of the party in the state, Isreal Ayeni, attributing the suspension of the three leaders of the party to the violation of the party’s constitution.

Speaking on the decision of the SWC of the party, the State Chairman of NNPP, Pastor Peter Olagookun, said the decision to suspend the trio was taken during the meeting of the SWC held on Monday, in order to save the state chapter of the party from drifting apart, following the activities of the suspended members.

Olagookun said, “We, the State Working Committee Of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Ondo State Chapter hereby Announced the suspension indefinitely of the following party members:

“Hon. Olugbenga Edema, the Governorship Candidate in the just concluded Ondo State Governorship Election, Barrister Rotimi Adeyemi; the Deputy Governorship Candidate and Mr. Isreal Oluwatosin Ayeni.”

Olagookun said the SWC suspended them on three grounds namely; “suing in the name of the party without recourse to the appropriate stakeholders in both the state and National level according to our party constitution.

“Sueing the party without exhausting internal resolution mechanism as provided by the party’s constitution; and Involving in anti-party’s activities.”

Also, the State Secretary of the party, Comrade Adekunle Oluwayomi said the party’s constitution must be respected, saying nobody would be allowed to use the party’s name recklessly.

The Ondo Central senatorial Chairman, Dr Tunde Adejuyigbe and the Ondo North Senatorial Chairman, Hon. Akpata Johnson said the decision was the best and the constitution of the party remains supreme.

He described the suspension of the three chieftains as the best decision of the SWC under Pastor Olagookun, saying the decision was taken in the interest and progress of the party.
