Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has deployed 2, 670 staff to the Ministry of Environment (MoE) to mitigate against climate change and other environmental degradation across the state.
According to him, fifteen coordinators and supervisors are to serve in each of the 178 wards in the state. Director General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Mamman Muhammad disclosed yesterday (Sunday), in Damaturu that the workers were drawn from the 17 local councils to implement the newly established Climate Change Adaptation (CCHA) project.
He said that the climate adaptation project comprises the execution of various climate mitigation activities to overcome the challenges of climate change in the State.
The Commissioner of Environment, Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa, disclosed that; “Our engagement of 2, 670 staff was to effectively check the environmental degradation of climate change in the State.”
Besides, he added: “We are determined to confront the environmental menaces to boost agricultural and livestock production to ensure food safety and security in each of the 17 Local Councils.”
He said that Community Social Organisations (CSOs) would also be involved by encouraging them to take ownership of the project for sustainability and maintenances.End.
