The Adeleke University on Saturday night held its 15th Xmas carol amidst prayers for divine intervention against insecurity and praise worship for divine favours and grace since the last divine celebrations.
The caro attended by thousands of university students, parents, clerics, top government officials and dignitaries from far and near witnessed readings from the holy book with Governor Adeleke urging clerics across faiths to intensify prayers as the nation passes through security turbulence.
The governor who sang in praise of God for several minutes noted the sense of fear and anxiety among the populace, praying to God to secure Nigerians across all walks of life.
Seeking divine intervention, the governor noted the gang up of people’s enemies within and without but affirmed the unfailing victorious hands of God in the affairs of the state and Nigeria as a whole.
Speaking earlier at the carol, the Pro-Chancellor of the University, Dr Deji Adeleke lamented the growing insecurity across the country, urging students and parents to be extra careful as they travel for the Christmas and new year holidays.
“In recent times, our security situation has become increasingly challenged. I urge you as you vacate for the Christmas and the new year, to be careful in all your movements.
“Don’t travel at night. Be careful of your movement. None of us will be a victim of accidents, kidnapping or assassination. I pray against kidnappers, accidents and any other form of evil. Let us pray ceaselessly for Nigeria. We need divine help to surmount our challenges.
“Many innocent citizens are being attacked, kidnapped. I pray to God to expose the sponsors of terror in Nigeria. I pray to God to secure and recover our nation, Nigeria”, the Pro-Chancellor noted in his address.
The event was attended by the Yeyeluwa of Edeland, Chief (Mrs) Modupeola Adeleke-Sanni, the wife of the Governor, Erelu Ngozi Adeleke, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon Kazeem Akinleye, members of the State Executive Council and other dignitaries.
