Civil society activists across Osun State have warmly welcomed the appointment of Ige Oluwasegun Ebenezer as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Civil Society Engagement by Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke. The appointment has been met with widespread commendation from prominent figures within the civil society community including the Osun Civil Advocates Network (OCAN), with many praising Ebenezer as a capable and genuine representative for the role.
Congratulatory messages poured in following the announcement, with a leading activist, Comrade Ebenezer Adebayo Adetoyese, expressing his support, saying, “Congratulations to a true and genuine civil society person, Ebby, my namesake. May you be greatly endowed with wisdom from on high to deliver on your new role. It is a familiar terrain and I pray you will not falter, neither will you fail God and humanity.”
Another activist, known simply as Sadiq Chocomilo, hailed the appointment as timely and appropriate, stating, “Congratulations, Cadre Ebby. It is deserving. You are a right peg in the right hole. I wish you success in office. More power, senior comrade.” These statements reflect the confidence that many activists have in Comrade Ebby’s ability to engage civil society effectively and bring a renewed sense of purpose to the position.
While congratulatory messages celebrated Comrade Ebby’s integrity and experience, others saw his appointment as a necessary corrective move following the suspension of the former SSA, Mr. Adebisi Emmanuel, who is currently under investigation for the alleged anti-party and diversion of over 70 bags of rice meant for the Civil Society Coalition.
In a statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the government emphasized its zero-tolerance stance towards corruption and misconduct, assuring the public that justice would prevail in the ongoing investigation.
As Comrade Ebby steps into this new role, civil society actors remain hopeful that his leadership will enhance collaboration between the government and non-governmental organizations and also foster positive change across Osun State.
The Governor’s office expressed its confidence in Ebenezer’s appointment, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability and good governance.
