Re- Press Statement by Kebbi State People’s Democratic Party On The Welfare Of Teachers In The State

We read with great concern the above subject matter by the opposition party in our great State. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has displayed gross ignorance and did not care to have a second thought before going to press.

Even though we did not intend to join issues with the opposition, we have it as an obligation to refute some of the allegations. One major aspect of their ignorance is writing on the most important and most endearing constituency of His Excellency. Berating the Governor for not fulfilling his campaign promises to teachers in the State on the day they are being celebrated worldwide is akin to entering someone’s house and tried to accuse him of owning the house. It should, therefore, be borne in mind that the Governor cannot abandon his constituency, which is the teaching profession.

For the avoidance of doubt, the entire allegations are baseless and it should be noted that the State Government has since implemented and fulfilled some of is campaign promises in the State, such as construction of roads, enhancing health sector, construction of schools and other infrastructures.

They should take a look of Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, how the present administration gave it a facelift. The Governor also constructed 5 kilometres township roads in Yauri, and approval has been given to that of Argungu Emirate. Farmers were supported with free farm tools, such free distribution of fertilizer, water pumping machines, and others. Similarly, food items were distributed to the people of the state for free.

His Excellency has approved the requests of all health personnel (Medical Doctors, Nurses and others) and has transformed all the casual workers to the state civil service.

He has also paid the student scholarships. Those schooling in Nigeria universities, and other institutions, and also those in foreign countries have all benefited.

One therefore expected the opposition to appreciate the present administration’s effort in changing the fortunes of the state to a greater level.

His Excellency, Governor Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris had engaged teachers on training and re-training and had since implemented their demands. The facts are there for everyone to check.
The teachers, who the PDP claimed rode on their back to fame have had schools built, and more renovated and ready to employ about two hundred teachers across the State. Or is the PDP saying building more schools and having more teachers to handle them not part of the achievement? In fact, Mega schools are so far, being built.

Go round the 21 Local Government and the facts speak for themselves. Erecting structures that will not stand the test of time in the name of achievement is not our concern. Moreso, structures must not be put in place for political gains.

We cannot claim to be blind to serious governmental issues because of party differences. The destiny of our dear State is our hands and must be handled with great care irrespective of any consideration.

It should be noted that His Excellency is a man of his words and should be seen so.

The PDP finally advised that the State Government should design and implement programme that will take care of the educational shortfalls. To this, we also advise the party (PDP) to, from time to time, confirm the activities of the government and not to sit in the comfort of their office to be arm chair critics.

On the whole, we appreciate the opposition for being there to help us do our work, but should be done with clean hands.

Signed:
Ahmed Idris,
Chief Press Secretary,
Kebbi State.
